Istanbul Underwater Hotel

This seven floor underwater hotel will give its guests a new view of the famous city of Istanbul. It is due to open in 2010, and will coincide with its Culture Capital of Europe nomination and lay down a gauntlet as a world capital of tourism.

The hotel is the work of Tanriverdi Holding and have set aside a multi-million dollar budget to ensure the project is finished to 7 star standards. ...

The underwater hotel trend was reported on a year ago and this new project shows two unique characteristics - it will be based in the city center and will go one floor further underwater. The underwater hotel is being built on the ruins of a historical 1930s tobacco factory and will have restaurants, exhibition halls, and rooms all with sea view rooms.

It will be interesting to check-in and check-out the underwater hotel rooms and facilities, as local experts suggest that the underwater visibility of the Istanbul Bosphorus Strait (which is the body of water that links the Black Sea, to the north, with the Sea of Marmara, to the south) is about ten feet.

Kakslauttanen Hotel - Finland

When you tire of the endless sandy beaches and azure waters of warm climes, but you are not quite ready for space travel, head to Lapland for a dramatic, mystical getaway. The snow igloos that pop up each winter to complement the 20 spectacular glass igloos and 31 luxury log cabins at Kakslauttanen resort in Saariselkä, Finland, are definitely cool in all meanings of the word.

Far away from city lights, this is an excellent place for viewing the aurora borealis from September to April.

Hotel Kakslauttanen consists of 25 log cabins, a restaurant with souvenir shopping facilities and two saunas.

Close to the resort is the Igloo Village that offers the unusual highlight of accommodation in genuine igloos made of snow.

You can lie in your bed under the glass ceiling of your glass igloo, cozily covered by thick down duvets, and watch the snow fall gently in the light-blue air of the endless night. It is surreal and magical. You actually do forget that it is cold and, in fact, you are not cold. The duvets and clothing provided ensure that you are really feeling cozy.Sleep in temperatures below zero, warm and snug in your padded sleeping bag, or you can choose to experience the polar night sleeping under the stars in the only glass igloos in the world. Check out the Ice Gallery with ice sculptures made by artists from Lapland and there is the Ice Chapel, which plays host to many weddings or head for a drink at a bar made completely of ice.The hotel offers guided Husky Safaris that includes some snow shoeing. On this adventure you can guide the sleigh pulled by 4-6 dogs.

There is also a snow chapel, the world’s largest snow restaurant for 150 people, a Finnish traditional smoke sauna, an eight-meter-tall glass tepee (designed to resemble the typical Lapp tepee called kota) for cocktail parties under the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights, revontulet in Finnish), and a honeymoon suite or two. You guessed, it, this place is hugely popular for fairytale winter weddings.
Snowmobile safaris, ice swimming and other frisky activities will keep you and your guests entertained for days! You can start your Finnish lessons with Hyvää päivää, which means hello, or literally, “have a good day.”

Hotel Kakslauttanen offers log cabins from $90 per person per night. The glass igloo starts from $190 a night. To stay in an ice igloo costs from $133 per person, per night. The Hotel runs 4 hour Husky Safaris in the wilderness for $220 per person.
