And how do you perceive transsexualism? We will try to find the answers to these questions in an artistic soiree called Transgender Me. In the course of a performance of the Drag Addicts, a photography exhibition, a public discussion and an author reading, we will try to dispel myths and taboos about transsexualism and show transsexualism and transgender as a topic which should not remain at the margins.

Exhibition Transgender Me (11th – 28th August)
According to the International Classification of Diseases, transsexualism is a disorder of sexual identity, and the “desire to live and to be perceived as a member of the opposite sex, accompanied by a wish to make the body—through surgical and hormonal treatment—as similar as possible to the body of the preferred sex”. But what is behind this formal definition? How does this still-taboo minority live and what problems do they face in day-to-day life? The photography exhibition Transgender Me offers several views on the topic of transgender: expressive documentary photographs capturing the evolution and the consequences of the transformation of two concrete people; a reflection on the role of virtual space for the lives of some transgendered individuals; and the search and acceptance of the transgender Me. A certain intervention the exhibition offers is that of reflecting on the effects of societal norms in determining gender and its related social roles, in constructing gender as a product of a person’s primary sexual characteristics without the possibility of individual choice.

Performance Virtual Therapy by Drag Addicts (English friendly)
What happens when isolation and solitude creeps over the social media, chat rooms and lonely hearts sections drip with surreal desires and the combination of love and lust breaks up the illusive realm of the fragile balance of masculine and feminine?
Dan Stewart and Maty Dio in their new experimental performance will challenge you to an intricate trip filled with multiple identities and to recognizing that the reality is nothing more than what you allow yourself to imagine.
Maty Dio and Dan Stewart – the first Drag king performers in the Czech Republic. Their shows combine gender-fuck cabaret and comical trans-burlesque, erase the borders between normalized stereotypes and break down social prejudices. Currently, they are engaged in experimental theatre through which they serve up in comical form novel views on gender, sexual orientation, relationships, feeling of loneliness, orgasm, sex, dating...

Discussion Transgender Me (Czech only)
Transsexuality is in the International Classification of Diseases known under the code F64.00. But what is behind this number? How does this still-taboo minority live and what problems do they face in day-to-day life? What issues must they confront in public administrative offices; what problems do they face in relationships with their friends and family and in the workplace; and how do their bodies react to the transition? And how does Czech law address changes in gender? Each of these topics will be explored in the artistic soiree Transgender Me. Participating in the discussion will be not only experts on transsexualism and transgender but also transgendered individuals themselves.

Reading of Mika Perryho (Czech only)
Mike Perry’s autobiographical novel,  somewhat curiously titled “Klec pro majáky” (A Cage for Beacons), is the first Czech-language account of a person’s transformation from being a woman to being a man. The author, formerly known as Ivana, underwent sex reassignment surgery in his early 50s, fulfilling a lifelong wish; the book’s title is a metaphor for Perry’s life experience.
